SAND PLANE - kinetic installation
SAND PLANE - wood, rope, Japanese washi paper, sand
This installation emerged from the desire to one day build a small airplane, to momentarily leave the ground and return to it again. That idea was translated into a minimal form and a simple movement.
Through a mechanism powered by sand, the oval shape slowly rises and falls. The choice of wood is essential. The material bears traces of craftsmanship, use, and time. Small irregularities remain visible and become part of the whole. This approach connects to the Japanese philosophy of wabi-sabi, in which simplicity, impermanence, and imperfection are regarded as carriers of beauty.
