BOY

BOY explores a family history intertwined with the colonial past of the Belgian Congo.

At the heart of the project lies the tension between personal memory and historical reality. Warm family recollections of life in Africa coexist with the broader context of colonial power, displacement, and exploitation. Through artworks, archival fragments, and reflection, BOY examines how colonial histories continue to shape identities and relationships across generations.

Together, the series of artworks and poetic texts opens a space for confronting the moral complexity of a shared past that has long remained unspoken.

"In the corner of the room stands a black box, put away long ago. I want to open it, to look inside, but my curiosity tightens into a knot. I have always been afraid of edges. Afraid of heights. Or of the depth below."
