Perbal/Bélibaste is an artistic duo formed by a married couple. Self-taught and unconventional in their journey, they embarked on their artistic path after following entirely different academic and professional directions. More details of their personal and professional journeys can be found at https://lechbinska.com/perbal-belibaste.
They avoid specific labels of artistic movements, instead describing their work as expressive—an evolving mix of mediums, materials, and methods. Rooted in figurative representation, their art is shaped by emotion, narrative, and a distinctive visual language that is unmistakably their own.
The Japanese philosophies of wabi-sabi and kintsukuroi quietly inform their work, reflected in an embrace of imperfection and the beauty of time’s traces. While they often incorporate elements gathered from nature or reclaimed from other lives, these are woven seamlessly with materials they choose, shape, and transform themselves. Each piece is a deliberate act of creation—combining craft, experimentation, and a deep connection to their subjects.
Nature remains both muse and refuge, a place where ideas are nurtured and materials are discovered. Yet their artistic vision is not limited to what is found; it extends to what is imagined, designed, and brought into being in the studio.
Their respect for the environment is evident in their lifestyle and practice, but it is only one facet of their work. They integrate sustainable choices—such as eco-friendly pigments, thoughtful material sourcing, and re-usable packaging—while allowing the art itself to remain the central voice. Even in the transport of their artworks, they favour slower, more grounded journeys whenever possible, allowing the landscapes and encounters along the way to enrich their creative process.
